to create a fortune westward bound

just where does the wind blow
on an early summer morning
blinkered looks that sadly glow
empty pockets sincerely hoping

expectations run high quietly vying
to create a fortune westward bound
'go west young man' constantly goading
where riches-lining pavements are found

some get bored will sadly discover
unwittingly they let slip opportunities
but those who painstakingly endeavor
will rise atop a pile of sanity

tremendous luck will give a hand
but luck alone flows a trifle slow
nothing like using the head and mind
as working smart steals the show

  1. What's on the other side? No one can exactly say what it is as it takes lots of courage and determination to go on that journey. And most of the times, it's not all about success. You have to do your part to achieve and realize that dream of yours.

    Well-written, Hank,

  2. Often journeys like this were undertaken because there was no choice unless one dared. It is one good facet of mankind to go beyond what was thought possible. Great read.

  4. Ah yes, work is essential, and few pavements are truly gold-lined. I do like the idea of working smarter (if only I could ever figure out how, lol).

  13. I would be in it for the adventure.
It takes faith, work and someone willing to risk it.
I would not be in it for the fortune though
    that is so fleeting.

  26. Opportunities do come and go and one needs to be on top of the game
to succeed. To me there is more to life than a fistful of gold. A little fortune
would be nice though, I do believe a bit of luck helps in the journey west.
I really enjoyed this one Hank and perseverance will get you to #1 . smiling.

  29. Hank,

Sometimes the faraway thoughts of riches can look enticingly good and filled with promises; unfortunately the reality can be very different, once there. So many failed hopes, but, at times, good fortune is returned, usually with lots of hard work!
