Compromise

Outwardly trivial
When not impacted on us
Not cared to bother

But not to ignore
Significantly glaring
Others were angry

Why they felt  cornered
Observed through semblance of form
Some obligations

Could we make amends?
Compromised on bitterness
Virtuous to forgive!

Written for d'Verse OpenLinkNight and Poets United vice-versa #6 of antonymns trivial/significant and observe/ignore

  2. i def think that compromise plays a big role in life....and in the end we choose who we do that with and who we hold firm...and must live with that...

  3. Things that appear trivial to others are not so trivial when they impact us for sure. And if there is a small slight, it is best to forgive.

(Thank you for your comment at my poem! It made me smile. Yes, she DID think for a time you were from Hawaii. You have a good memory. )

  4. I like this. It's kind of gritty and chunky at the same time. Nicely done.

  5. Yep have to ignore ones want to win and actually find a middle ground, things work way better than way.

  6. Bren,
That's right! It's not wanting to hurt if it's not material!

    Brian,
Surely we have to put our foot down where necessary, Yes!

    Mary,
If it's trivial we just laugh it off and maintain the good relations.
(I remembered her for she took the trouble to care)

    Dave,
Thanks! I have a liking for haiku as it doesn't have to rhyme

    Pat,
Yes, learned that in human relations!

  7. It is so true that it is easy to write off as trivial what is very significant to someone else. The whole idea of what impacts me and what doesn't is intriguing lately as I am becoming to think of everyone and everything as increasingly interconnected.

  8. Victoria,
A realization that our presence can make a difference led us to think more on how to help. Thanks

  10. It's easy to say, but forgiveness is difficult. Yet, if we don't at least compromise, the result is often bitterness and unhappiness. Nicely scripted.

  11. Even the apparently trivial has a place in life! The trivial can have a habit of becoming grand!

  12. Amends happen long after the "I'm sorry" phase.

Often it is two who have offended each other, and you point out compromise, which is the cement in the concrete of healing, forgiving, living, loving, and even forgetting.

You sure got me to thinking. And you did it (your writing) so well!
    Thank you
    PEACE!

Win/win it is! but getting to that conclusion is the problem!

    Myrna,
A case of forgiving but not forgetting it appears!

    Gemma,
In a positive sense it's good but a disaster otherwise.

    Steve,
Thanks! That's normally the case. If only emotions are put aside it's a better world out there!

  15. Opposites? Let us put aside that idea for a minute. I am not so sure. Compromise can contain them all in its rare kind of violence in which those willing to hold on the longest get their way! I have experienced this extreme: "the semblance of form" and finally "Compromised on bitterness Virtuous to forgive!"

And I find these Haiku, devoid of nature, the PERFECT container of the awkward promises of compromise in which no one--sans violence--gets what they want. Virtuous bitterness forgives indeed. There are better ways.

  16. I'm afraid that I can't add anything that hasn't already been said in the comments. I found myself nodding my head in agreement as I read them.
