A Scheme

He came with a little smile, a toothy little smile
Broader it became as he got a little closer
Broke into a small laughter and all the while
A quizzical stance hidden behind the laughter

Broader it became as he got a little closer
Seen this act a few times had seen it before
A quizzical stance hidden behind the laughter
Scheming intention, a suspicious one I gather

Seen this act a few times had seen it before
Upon reaching an extended hand in friendly gesture
Scheming intention, a suspicious one I gather
Responded likewise not wanting to create a furor

A quizzical stance hidden behind the laughter
Began with a few good words without a falter
Scheming intention , a suspicious one I gather
The sling bag  is opened its contents spilled over

Began with a few good words without a falter
All the charts, the legs, the returns, too familiar
The sling bag  is opened its contents spilled over
I knew it, a ‘get-rich-quick’ a Ponzi as it were

All the charts, the legs, the returns, too familiar
Broke into a small laughter and all the while
I knew it, a ‘get-rich-quick’ a Ponzi as it were
He came with a little smile, a toothy little smile

  3. Yes, familiar with these guys with a toothy little smile ~ The only ones who get rich are those on top of the pile ~

Nice work on the form too Hank ~

  4. Interest metaphor you use here, moving from the folk tales of rainbows and their guardians to the contemporary experience, different but people by the same untrustworthy characters. Great use of the pantoum here as well.

  7. Hank, a pantoum can sometimes turn out flat and mannered, but yours sings! Not only that - the subject matter, well, you know me. You nailed the weaselly little wretches. Vulture capitalists at their best, which is the worst for all unfortunate enough to be caught in their webs of deceit and greed. Great metaphor here... thanks! Peace, Amy

  8. Sharp Little Pencil speaks my mind. I laughed as you trapped him at the end. You exposed him thoroughly,

  10. Hank, you chose a challenging subject for a pantoum and worked it well. I can just picture this schemer with his 'toothy little smile' and his 'scheming intention.'

  11. This is really cool. I like how you mastered the form, but I also like how you depicted the schemer. Enjoyed reading this.
