Peace

A very quiet beach
Devoid of human forms
Early morning mist
Nor other animal movements

Except for the slow lashing
of the lazy waves on the shore
In the distance glistening
As a glass sheet crystal clear

Peaceful as it is!

The same cannot be said
Of what's around the local scene
The crime wave driving us mad
Of profiteers ever so mean

It's no better globally
Power play against the weak
Those not affected take it lightly
'Not in my backyard' we play it meek

Peace clamored for!

The beach is ever so peaceful
Semblance of regulated nature's ways
Not readily offered in a world of plentiful
Where greed and high handedness held sway

Peace so elusive!

    1. Thanks Truedessa! We're not crippled. It can happen if there's enough political will to effect changes!

  7. Love the way you showed the beach as a counter-balance to human activity. We get it so wrong, don't we?

    1. It's comforting when there is realization. But sadness in not being able to influence it our way! Thanks Anthony!

  8. You handle the contrasts, peace turbulence, with great aplomb, surprising us in the first instance with "what's around the corner". A well made poem full of feeling.

  10. Just having a place to run too
With all the crap around us out of view
    Is surely nice indeed
Watching as the waves take seed

  11. ...i guess the more we seek for peace... the more it will not come to us... for there is so much wanting & so less of believing & acceptance... great write Hank... enjoyed it... smiles...

Too bad that we cannot emulate nature

  15. This was well done. Made me think of when I sent my kids to Jamaica on their honeymoon and there was crime all around their hotel/private beach.

  17. A starkly drawn contrast between the peace of the sea and calming waves and that 'other world' of nimbyism and those 'other waves' of crime.
