October is not about to be dislodged

October is not about to be dislodged
Steadfast in its make-up it is holding out
There are elements it is trying to dodge
Stellar in adherence and ably stout

Likely to be stingy in extending its warmth
Bastion against elements creating dissensions
Reproached  by calls for more of Autumn
Those who abhorred the impending cold months

October must invariably stand its ground
Not to be intimidated by all and sundry
Only a twisted smile is all that is apparent
Allowing Providence's hand against a mutiny

  1. October is a lovely month after the heat of the summer, much wanted rain, plus Halloween.
    Great poem Hank.

  5. I think our October is fighting against reality. We've only just begun to see autumn temperatures.

  6. Nice image, and thank goodness that autumn offers such wonderful gifts because once winter arrives we often really need to remember the three seasons that came before the cold tundra!

  7. I've been feeling the stinginess your poem speaks of. We must have a sit down with October. This chills are just not cool... or too cool, I guess.

  10. Love the sense of strength you give October, as if "she" is standing up against the oncoming cold, proudly showing off her beauty. Which indeed, she is. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Nice poem, Hank! I've been watching her, October, for many years, more than I'll tell here. She is standing firm. Even towards the end still there, my BDay is way down on her days.
