It clouds his mind to be told there is no outing for the day.
They so very much  look forward to it. They have been together
for many years. They see each other come and go.They develop
keen friendships learning from each other. It is to be expected.
A treasure trove garnered in their working life by way of a career
or led by the unsatiated attraction of hobbies or sports. Now they
are bored.Cumulonimbus building up in the skies. Their minders
are right in not wanting to let them out. They may yet get their
opportunity some other day. Time is at their disposal. He is quite
happy with the explanation. They are well taken care of unlike at
some other homes for the aged.

  2. I can't comment on that as I used to work with the elderly.
Now approaching similar age I am ashamed to feel frightened at the prsopect as none of my family speaks, so this Hank hit a raw nerve.

  3. I find the elderly truly beautiful and it is so very sad when they are left behind - by families or by nature. Beautifully writ.

  4. Your haiku is a reminder that we are all tied to the whim of nature. "Getting old ain't for sissies" as Bette Davis said.

  5. I find this to be a poignant and beautiful write Hank, one of your best. The haiku ties it all together beautifully. I for one dread being one of the ones who will have keepers in the years to come.

  10. Yep she does as she pleases! I had last Saturday off for a picnic swimming party but of course it had to rain! The next day (I worked) at the weather was so sunny and nice!
