a misty morning with a slight breeze

with a Runny Nose (here)

the 10 of 12 given words:
misty breeze child runny spray
sing drive eggs movies find

a misty morning with a slight breeze
air of silence like a child with runny nose
wanting a spray to clear the passage with ease
but never satisfied with the given dose

sing a song of praise to the spirits
in the hope it will drive off the affliction
or perhaps take a couple of boiled eggs
as in the movies to clear the congestion

the common cold one finds very irritating
is but an ailment more of the moment
rather than one that is life threatening
often brushed off as being just a nuisance

  1. Ah, the nuisance of common cold is indeed like that.
I liked this: "sing a song of praise to the spirits/in the hope it will drive off the affliction". Hope it works though.

  7. I love "sing a song of praise to the spirits".......I like this ode to the common cold. Like de Maupassant, you have proven a writer can write a story or poem about anything.

  8. Love the way in which you pin the poem to the dual interpretation of the title. And that image is totally fab! Cool post, Hank.

in the hope it will drive off the affliction

If a song of praise will work, I will gladly sing

  13. The photo was brilliant, and I remember many many years ago kids at school with noses dripping happily spreading the virus so we didn't miss out either!

  16. I think nuisances, when it comes to illnesses, tend to be even more frustrating... at times. One just can't help feeling that something that isn't as serious could be so annoying.
