Blind to your opaque stillness

                                                                                                     Author: El Lissitzky
Image: Looking not at you
but through you. (here)

Sharp piercing eyes
Contending to look
not at you but contemptuously
through you
Blind to your opaque stillness
Brushing aside a living soul
Out-rightly existing in person
to him but none

What to make of it
To arrest its progress
Perhaps its false front

What lies ahead then?

No telling in form and substance
Nor giving in to time and space
To save all from embarassment
offer fair competition
Humanistic requirement is a fair game

  1. Yes, that stare that goes right through you. I receive it so often, being an old woman. I feel sorry for all they are missing with eyes so closed.

  2. I have to agree with Sherry - but I welcome it as I don't like to waste my time.

  3. Looking through, yet blind. There is a hostile feel to the picture and you capture it in your words as well.

  4. You capture the emotions behind the deep and penetrating stare so well! Beautifully penned.

  5. Really a put-down, Hank, the lines
    Brushing aside a living soul
    Out-rightly existing in person
    to him but none
But that's "him" so be it.

  6. I love the title of your way and the way it is used as a line in the poem. There are too many dehumanizing factors in the world... let's keep it real.

  8. Yes, you have summed up exactly what is so off-putting about this de-humanised portrait.

  9. Real sure is the best way, but too often things just get looked at but not really looked at.

  10. Ah yes pompousness does that:
    "Brushing aside a living soul"

Then when you talk of time and space later I have to agree it has to do with development of society, pass the agrarian chummy-ness to the now-a-day stranger suspicion for our own safeguard and alertness

    much love...
