Polished stones glisten

Hazy afternoon
Ripples of stream water glides
Polished stones glisten

Workers wormed their way
Crowded highway jammed with cars
Back from the rat race

Extending its reach
A cicada needs only
sing sweet melody

Birds returned to roost
Sky darkened night life begins
Can the city sleep?

  3. The photo and the first stanza remind me that secluded or just untouched areas in nature offer so much rest from my daily busy life. Thanks for the reminder.

  4. Cities never do, always something on the go. But I'll take the slow over the rat race

  5. Stones polished by stream water - I don't think there is a lovelier more iconic image for peaceful rest. Good one, Hank.

  8. That last haiku brought "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra in mind "the city that never sleeps" ...

  9. I live in a quiet area - nature is heard over cars. I find it "fun" to visit a city - look out hotel windows and watch the going's on - loved looking out the 10th story window of a New York City hotel…
