Mostly Dead is Slightly Alive.the tree swayed like a dancer
moving her hips to the music
to stay trapped in such a stance
may impose certain limits
It is a far cry from having to
shine and settle it bravely
how then to relieve the pain
a clever way to respond is
never to run down the whole show
man is a brave animal quick
to adjust never to accept defeat
for any eventualities without
man's ingenuity knows no bounds
never to fall from grace
with empty hands
give it a shot and see what gives
that's the whole point
of having a crafty mind
It is a far cry from having to
shine and settle it bravely
how then to relieve the pain
and trim the score easily
a clever way to respond is
never to run down the whole show
nor to stray away
from the intended direction
for it may drain the resources
thus limiting the choices

for any eventualities without
extending a fair fight
man's ingenuity knows no bounds
never to fall from grace
with empty hands

that's the whole point
of having a crafty mind

As You Wish
Our brush turkeys do have a certain craftiness, and also are stubborn so-and-sos. (Personally I like them, but then they have never tried to destroy my garden to make their nests.) I like the way the poem goes from the tree making the best of her limited mobility, to humanity well served by our ingenious minds, and the philosophical enquiries yu suggest.
ReplyDeletelove your poem and the wisdom lies in the last two lines. Victory, Grace, defeat are all based on a particular story. A crafty person would rather find victory in a defeat rather than giving away the life - not being able to redefine the purpose of life, the personal story.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of not straying away from a desired goal or buckling under defeat. For like a tree, the intended direction is up.
ReplyDeleteNever underestimate a crafty bird!
ReplyDeleteNo one will say your mind is not crafty, Hank! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteA crafty and philosophical piece
ReplyDeletewho knew turkeys could fly.... now man he's pretty cool and love how you portray humanity with hope... wings well one can only dream as the wright brothers did not so long ago....
ReplyDeleteNo resemblance to the wild American turkeys who can swoop down from trees.
