blight on its conscience

                                                                                                                  Author: Henry Söderlund
Image:  A Hungry Squirrel (here)

looking for a bite
and bothered by the cold

without a stocked larder
it was a grave misjudgment
worsening of the weather
meant an empty stomach
in hibernation

blight on its conscience
now pining for food
utter regret often
the wages of blunder

  9. Yours is a hungry squirrel, but I have to ask whether that long-eared animal in the picture is a Hungarian squirrel?
