His soul trampled with torment

Image: Irresistible aromatic scent (here)

It tugs at the bones when it does
Pushing through the sheath covering
the nose so fast
To withstand an aroma hovering

But resurgence of her presence
A retribution to remind
him of her absence
To bring to his senses so defined

Missed the scent ostensibly the scent
But he missed her most
His soul trampled with torment
How shabbily and petrified in remorse

Inconsiderate excursion to a young mind
Reacting too fast regretting, now within his confines
Lesson learnt that the next time
As elders said so, must first count to ten

For Sanaa's Prompt Nights  -  nothing
more memorable than scent

  1. Lessons learnt make for better 'next times'

Nice response to the prompt Hank

    Much love...

  2. Such a splendid response to the prompt Hank. Sometimes scent plays an important role upon our senses so as to guide our next step. Beautifully expressed. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support :D

    Lots of love,

  3. Lessons learned and regret... hope for a better next time and a lasting scent.

  4. The scent of lessons never quite breathed in can be a torturous thing...

  5. Lesson learnt is the only positive outcome making one wise for the better...

  6. Have to curb a response sometimes or things may be said one can't take back.

  7. We live and learn - maybe the hard way but usually for the best..although counting to ten never hurts ;)

  8. So true that certain scents are tied in to people who have played a role in our lives. Sometimes, they elicit happy memories--at other times, not so.

  9. Youth often lacks discretion, counting to ten is a big help so important things are not done in hast. I once had a car with a scent. The smells of the former owner.

  10. The first stanza gives such intense pleasure to the mind. Makes it almost worth holding on to the scent, whilst cherishing the youthful days.

  11. So much remorse...haunted by the scent of a rose. Very moving piece XXX
