beach bum lazing and loafing

beach bum lazing and loafing
seeing colours of visitors
beautiful sunsets in evenings
no worry no jitters

no stressful traffic jams
experienced by those with envy
expertise traded often
surfing for money

surviving with laughter
no deadlines
but not anymore
the pandemic, a disaster

  1. The pandemic is indeed a disaster! I wish I could lounge around the beach worry free.. sigh, maybe next year.

  2. A distaster, indeed. I love the carefree life this poem evokes. I long for it, actually.

  5. Yes, the pandemic ruins anything that was once considered enjoyable or fun in the outdoors. Going to the beach? Don't bet your (actual) life on it. Great piece here, Hank. It is brilliant with that turn in mood and tone that conveys a rather tragic piece. The fun, the imagery of enjoyment, all taken away by the pandemic. You communicate that evocatively.

  6. It is amazing how quickly an invisible virus shut the whole world down and chased the beach bums back in the house!

  7. EVERYONE'S lives have been disrupted, even those who don't buy into the mainstream. they have a right to be more pissed than those who have run with the herd their whole lives. Nicely done quadrille, Hank.

  8. I live on the south coast here in the UK, some weeks ago we had an extremely hot day, Pandemic or no thousands descended on out beaches .....no social distancing or mask. Brought misery here I can relate to you.

  9. Our local beach here on the North Sea coast of the UK couldn’t have been busier, it must have been one of the first places everyone rushed to when lockdown was over. Not good for us locals, having to clean up the mess they left behind. Even our village has been overrun with campers and people with canoes.

  10. I hadn't considered how the pandemic might affect the life of beach bums. I think the great rush to the beaches might account for the sudden resurge in the virus. Seems many who go to beaches and bars consider themselves immune!

  11. Not being a beach bum I can clearly see how they would be affected... I find that those most affected are the young and the old. For middle-aged people like me, life goes on... working from home.
